Theresa May has accepted the resignation of Amber Rudd as Home Secretary, Downing Street has said. It comes after another private letter which included 'ambitious and deliverable' migrant deportation targets emerged, after Rudd claimed she knew nothing about them. Rudd appears to have signed the correspondence, which says that she is aiming to 'increase the number of enforced removals by more than ten per cent', in January last year. After Rudd claimed that she had never seen a previous memo referencing immigration targets, the former immigration minister Brandon Lewis suggested that the increase was an ambition rather than a target.

The manoeuvring is now under way to replace Amber Rudd after her dramatic resignation. But the PM faces a headache to maintain the delicate balance between Brexit and Remain in Cabinet.

David Cameron put Ms Rudd, 54, on his controversial A-list of candidates and she took Hastings and Rye back from Labour in 2010. Within six years, she was home secretary.

The programme Genderquake addresses the whole issue in a disarmingly simple way: the group of volunteers, who have been chosen for their varied stances on sex and gender, move into a house together and cameras film them over a month. Life stories come tumbling out. Prejudices, entrenched views and rows duly ensue. Questions are asked that, in polite society, tend not to be asked. Not everyone will like the answers, either. The oldest member of the group, Markus, is 32, while the youngest, Charlie, is 19, so we are talking about millennials here — most of them not short on opinions.
