if it wasn't January, I'd think this was a hurricane going up the East Coast. almost looks like there's an eyewall with the rotation.

The low central pressure of this storm is not unlike a category 2 hurricane. But there are some important structural differences between hurricanes and nor'easters like this one. Learn more here: http://www.aoml.noaa.gov/hrd/tcfaq/A7.html …

There's actually some science behind it. Meteorologists have been using the term for decades to describe any rapidly intensifying mid-latitude storm that sees a drop in barometric pressure of at least 24 millibars in 24 hours. Nothing but CGI. This is clearly an artist's conception of a "satellite" view of Earth. If you want a more realistic view from that high, put in more clouds making it near-impossible to distinguish countries. Make the Earth flat. And don't show city lights ffs.

Thanks for the compliment, but this is not CGI. You can read more about how GOES-East geocolor imagery is created at this link: https://www.star.nesdis.noaa.gov/GOES/documents/QuickGuide_CIRA_Geocolor_20171019.pdf …
